Early warning systems to fight climate change

With emerging climate change disasters such as flooding and wildfires we need to adapt. Corporations are doing this by assessing the risks emerging on a fast scale and innovators are able to offer products and services to help us adapt to a volatile environment.

Pyri is a wildfire detection device melts in response to fire. Pyri is built out of wax and charcoal and was inspired by nature in its shape, materiality and also how it works. Its name references the botanical phenomenon known as "pyriscence", wherein plants in wildfire-prone areas have adapted to release their seeds in high heat.

The shape of the device is based on pinecones from these kinds of trees, which drop their seeds only when their resin outer casing melts.

This nature-inspired device sends a warning as soon as a wildfire is detected.
